Winter Series 2019 — 19th January

The Ultra-Trail Nepal Winter Series 2019 consists of four races: 75k, 50k, 25k, 12k. Detailed Google Maps of the race course, elevations and distances are shown below.


Race Categories

12km (1pm start, Batase Village).

No transport or accomodation provided. Participants must have parental consent.

This race is designed for our young emerging champions from the community. The race starts and ends in Batase village- the trail begins with a downhill run which takes the runners to the small town of Talamarang, from Talamarang the runners will run alongside the river for approx 2km before venturing up the mountain and back to the finishing point at Batase village school.

This race is open to all international athletes who are out to have a fun day and to experience life in rural Nepal.

25km (12pm start, Batase Village)
This race also begins at Batase village school. It begins with a climb up a mountain (dhaule dada) before levelling out, runners will run downhill to the township of Melamchi- there will be a 6km run along the road and alongside the river before reaching Talamrang. From Talamarang the runners will run alongside the river for approx 2km before beginning the challenging uphill run back to Batase Village school finishing point.

75m & 50km (6am start, Kathmandu)
This Ultra Trail race begins in the tourist district of Thamel, in the heart of Kathmandu. It follows the main highway to Bhudanilkantha, passing many western embassies before heading into the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. It then heads down the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani (2300m) where it joins the main trekking route to Helambu and Langtang.

The trail commences downhill to Patybanjyang, where you will experience some great views of the Himalayas. From Patybanjyang you will follow the main Helambu trekking route to Thankuni, from there you will follow the trail to Batase Village.

The surrounding scenery on this ultra trail run is breathtaking, and you will look across a vast valley and see rice fields, villages and people going about their daily lives in rural Nepal.

The Ultra Trail 75km & 50km races begin at 1,400m in Kathmandu and climbs up to 2,500m before descending to 830m at the lowest point- the finishing point at Batase Village is 1,800m.
